Matt and I spent Halloween in Orem helping out at my brother’s shop. My brother fell off a ladder a couple weeks ago and broke his humerus. When he fell he landed right on his back which might be why he was taken to the ER a week later with horrible abdominal pain. It turned out that one of his kidneys had swollen to the size of a football and was pressing on all his insides. He ended up having 1.5 liters of liquid drained from his kidney and a tube installed to continue draining the kidney into a bag. He’s going to have some more tests done to decide how well the kidney is functioning and whether it needs to come out or if it can be repaired. Either way, he will need surgery. The worst part is that he has no insurance (denied for pre-existing conditions) and most of the money the scooter shop has been making lately has been from repairs. With a broken arm and a tube sticking out of his back, Dave isn’t able to perform repairs at his normal speed.
Hulk smash!
While Matt and I were at the shop we received numerous phone calls and visits from concerned customers who had heard rumors of Dave’s injuries. Dave and his shop are clearly beloved by the community. I took some pictures around the shop. I love the Scooter Lounge and I hope that it will withstand all the hard times.
